BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Boise Hawks will temporarily rebrand as the "Boise Papas Fritas" in honor of the Hispanic community.
For six 2020 home games, the Hawks will become the Papas Fritas starting Sunday, July 12. The players will wear customized uniforms and hats.
This rebrand is a part of MiLB's national Copa de la Diversion initiative. 92 Minor League Baseball teams will participate around the country.
“Joining Minor League Baseball, along with several of our league-mates, in Copa de la Diversion has been on our radar the past two seasons,” said Mike Van Hise, Hawks’ General Manager. “We’re very excited to bring this fun, new brand to the Treasure Valley and have a blast with it this upcoming season.”
The Papas Fritas nights will be held July 12/19, August 2/9/16 and September 6.
Minor League Baseball’s “Copa de la Diversion,” or “Fun Cup,” is a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with the participating teams’ local U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities.
