Does Lenore Get Eaten By Her Own Pet?

Following the clues found in Baldur's Gate 3's 'Removing the Parasite' quest points to the gruesome fate of Lenore at the hands of her pet Bulette.

Summary

  • Lenore's fate in Baldur's Gate 3 is a mystery, with clues suggesting she may have been eaten by her own pet Bulette.
  • Lenore's diary and a letter from her friends provide key clues about her possible demise.
  • However, changes in the game's release version have made her fate more ambiguous, leaving open the possibility that she survived or stayed in Baldur's Gate.

When visiting a ruined arcane tower in Baldur's Gate 3, the owner Lenore is nowhere to be found, although clues are scattered throughout for the party to find. Hints to a grisly fate for Lenore do, however, appear elsewhere in the depths of the Underdark. Some things have been changed since the game's period in early access, but evidence used to point toward the idea that Lenore may have been eaten by her own pet. This remains a distinct possibility, but there's room for other interpretations of where her story went.

As part of the quest "Removing the Parasite" in Baldur's Gate 3, Tav is sent to find ingredients in a tower located in the Underdark. Other characters involved, Blurg and Omeluum, seem to believe Lenore will be inside, but upon entering, the party will find the tower empty and in a state of disarray. With no Lenore in sight, characters can go about their business in her tower and, in doing so, will uncover numerous clues about where Lenore could be. Lenore's diary can be found in the tower, which contains several key clues to unraveling her possible fate.

Signs That Lenore Was Eaten By Her Pet Bulette In BG 3

Lenore's diary reveals both an intent to find a Bulette to train and a journey to Baldur's Gate. A letter from Lenore's friends that can be found in the tower warns her that Bulettes do not make good pets, which leads directly to the early access clue that indicates her fate. Defeating and looting a Bulette in the Underdark could reveal a Slippery Chain Shirt inside, a rare piece of medium armor that seems like it may have failed to keep its former owner safe. By coupling this discovery with the letter, the clue pointed to Lenore having been eaten by her new pet.

Why Lenore Might Have Survived In Baldur's Gate 3

Some changes regarding Lenore's fate have been made since the time Baldur's Gate 3 spent in early access. In the release version of the game, the Slippery Chain Shirt inside the Bulette's stomach is replaced by Bloodguzzler Garb, clothing best fit for a barbarian to wear. As this wouldn't match up with Lenore, if Larian intended to imply that the Bulette ate Lenore, the studio has since backtracked on the idea or wishes to leave it even more ambiguous than before.

Another possibility for Lenore's fate in Baldur's Gate 3 is that she did, in fact, make it to the city of Baldur's Gate and simply stayed longer than intended. The automatons currently in use there bear some resemblance to those found in the Arcane Tower, meaning that Lenore could very well have become involved in their development. Ultimately, unless more conclusive evidence is found, the end to Lenore's story is left ambiguous in Baldur's Gate 3, as both deaths at the hands of her pet Bulette and life in Baldur's Gate seem like real possibilities.
